Important Dates for Term 4 & other information
Year 2 will attend an excursion on Thursday October 15 and Year 1 will attend their excursion on Thursday October 22, to the city as part of their “Shelters and Structures” integrated studies unit. Please return the permission slips ASAP.
Collaboration Time
1 , 2 Look What We Do!
For the next ten weeks we will have clubs every Wednesday morning. It’s an opportunity for the children to work with other children and teachers in mixed grade groups where they will be participating in a range of activities. Remember to ask your child about it each week.
CURRICULUM NEWS
Integrated Studies
Our integrated unit for this term is “Shelters and Structures” We will be investigating buildings and the materials involved in their construction. This will enable the children to view various types of buildings and the different building materials used. We will start at St Patrick’s Cathedral and walk down Collins Street to Federation Square.
Our second unit of work is “Food, Families and Festivals”. We will focus on different festivals around the world and how they are celebrated.
English
The major writing focus for this term will be the writing of procedural texts and writing narratives. Students will also be reading procedures and following directions. The individual reading needs of the children will continue to be met through daily Guided Reading sessions.
Maths
Year one - money (counting coins, adding different coins, giving change), numbers to 99, number patterns, mental strategies, location and mass
Year two - money, division, area and perimeter, presenting data, time, problems involving addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
Homework
Homework will continue as before with spelling and reading. We will also be asking students to write a procedure and present it to the class.
