Year 3 & 4 Newsletter Term 4.2009
Last term we began our study of Environments in Australia and it will be carried over to this term. The children will build an understanding of a specific ecosystem: desert, river, wetland, rainforest, ocean and Antarctica.

The excursions planned for this term include a trip to the Yarra River at Studley Park, a visit to Ecolink in Bacchus Marsh and a production of Roald Dahl’s The BFG.
ECOLINC Link Excursion - discovering the wonders of wetlands

Homework for the first two weeks will link directly with the unit and will involve finding newspaper articles and reading them at home and then sharing them with the class. This is how children can earn ‘Enviros’. Later in the term we will have an Enviro Market Day where children can spend their Enviros. From week three the children will keep a Reading Log as English homework that needs to be signed by parents weekly. Details will be sent out shortly.
French- Madame Temple will be teaching French to all Level 3 students.
We will complete the year with a fun look at Celebrations. We hope to take advantage of the improving weather to do some activities outside. We would love to hear from any parents with an interest in cooking, crafts, etc related to special celebrations from a range of religions.
The students will also be participating in Level 3’s annual Peppercorn Race Day, where they will design and create hats or ties and take part in other race day activities.
3/4 Sport rotations continue this term on Friday mornings at 9.50 am.
Performing Arts- We ask parents to encourage their children to practise their recorders and bring them to school on Performing Arts day each week.
Musical Play Performance for Parents. On the last week of the year, each class will perform Jeff Leask's play, "The King's New Clothes", in their Performing Arts lesson. If parents arrive at the following times they will see their children perform enthusiastically in this hilarious show. Lead roles will be allocated during the term so students will be very busy learning their lines. We will begin the performance with a recorder piece!
Thank you to all the volunteers who helped with Athletics, Bike Ed, ran one of the Science Club activities and to all the volunteers who helped elsewhere last term. We really appreciate your support.
