Year 5 Camp 2008
Year 5 Camp
The Year 5's have just returned from the fabulous Camp Manyung. The activities were Beach Education, Snorkeling, Flying Fox, Giant Swing and Vertical Challenge.
In Beach Education we learnt about where our water sources come from and we also learnt how to surf on nipper boards. The instructor drew a map of the peninsula and showed us where Melbourne, Kew, Queenscliff and Mount Eliza were.
In snorkeling, we were fitted with wetsuits. We were raken out in small groups to find different types of sea life. The creatures that some of the groups spotted were: a Banjo Shark, a couple of puffer fish, a couple of zebra fish, a toad fish, seasnail eggs and lots and lots of seastars.
On the Flying Fox, we were harnessed and hooked onto a zip line. We were attatched to a seat on which we sat and then we were then pushed off the edge of a platform. We swang along and went to the end of the zip line.On the Giant Swing we were hooked up to a large frame work 18 metres tall. Our teammates pulled us up to however high we wanted to go and the we pulled a red cord which released us, and we flew through the air with a great view of the bay.
On the Vertical Challenge, we had to try to climb up a enormous framework which was also 18 meteres high. We were harnessed to the frame and the rope pullers (people who weren't climbing the vertical challenge) pulled the rope to help us to get higher.
We were very lucky to be able to go on such an exciting camp which was so much fun.
