Assessment & reporting

Assessment is the ongoing process of gathering, analysing and reflecting on evidence to make informed and consistent judgements about student progress to improve future learning. At Kew Primary School assessment practices have three overarching purposes:

  • Assessment for learning: occurs when teachers use inferences about student progress to inform their teaching (formative assessment)

  • Assessment as learning: occurs when students reflect on and monitor their progress to inform their future learning goals (formative assessment)

  • Assessment of learning: occurs when teachers use evidence of student learning to make judgements on student achievement against goals and standards (summative assessment).

Written reports including personalised learning comments and identified student achievement and progress against the Victorian Curriculum are sent at the end of each semester (twice a year). In addition we offer opportunities throughout the year for families to meet with teachers and students to share and celebrate their learning with families.
